Tomorrow, starts NanoWriMo. I'm going to write a novel in November what are you going to do?

Whew! Tomorrow is the big day when a whole bunch of us will sally forth and begin to write. Or keep writing or whatever. I’ve been planning and plotting and characterizing and reading as many books about good novel writing as I can get my eyeballs on. I am ready.

I think.

I have a Time Travel novel planned. It takes place in many of the locations here in California where we have taken our Airstream. It pulls from my love of camping, history and the west and my love of technology, science and one whopping good yarn. I’ve had lots of fun with this story and I plan to have lots more.

For the next 30 days I will continue to write about the Airstream but I will also drop in posts about my Nano progress. My plan is pretty simple, to have 50K of my 80+K novel complete in first draft form by December 1. After than I plan to push on through to the final first draft by December 31. We’ll see how that goes.

My working title is San Francisco.

NanoWrimo, it's all about Project Management.

I have been tending the blog today. You know pruning, weeding, updating etc. I found my self questioning why I would want to discuss writing prep on a blog about fine living, Airstream trailers and home improvment. It’s all about the projects.

Yep, it is. Everything that I do and probably you too starts with good project management. My Nano disaster last year was a mess because I just started writing without any planning, tracking or metrics. My day job- a Business Consultant managing complex projects for Biotechnology tools companies- is all about project and program management. These are the same skills that I bring to all the tasks and projects that I discuss here.

So, while this may be a bit of a departure from vignettes around cool plumbing and complex curve fitting it may be of use in the arena of project management. And after all, that is where most projects fail or succeed.

And I still have the latest trailer work to write up and publish! See, project management!
